It is cultivated mostly in the regions of Andhra Pradesh and Karnataka. The grain is medium-sized, light weight, aromatic and is low in starch. Considered to be a healthier type of rice, Sona Masoori rice is mostly used to make dishes like sweet pongal, idlis, biryani, fried rice etc.
